Hair Extension Home Care

*Do not wash your hair or sweat heavily for 48 hours immediately after installation

Brushing:

Brushing is mandatory! Only use tools that are specifically designed for hair extensions, such as a grooming brush or a gentle detangling brush. When you brush, start from the ends and work out any tangles, working your way up in small sections. Gently brush directly onto your scalp right over the bond attachments like it is your normal hair. Take your hair extension brush everywhere you go, regularly brushing is a must. At least twice a day minimum.

Yes, you can brush your hair when wet. In fact, don't let your hair air dry before you have a chance to brush it out. If you have worn your hair in a braid and your hair is wet, undo and brush your hair and then tie it up. Letting it dry before brushing may make it more difficult, resulting in pulling and tension on the bonds.

Washing:

Before washing your hair, make sure to thoroughly brush hair and extensions.

Scrub at the scalp with shampoo in horizontal motions and avoid tangling/scrubbing the mids and ends of the extensions to prevent matting & dryness. Rinse thoroughly between your extensions. When conditioning, avoid applying conditioner at the attachment site of the extensions. Only condition mid-lengths to ends. This rule also applies to hair masques and styling products. Blondes should avoid the use of purple toning shampoos while wearing extensions.

Sleeping:

Sleep with your extensions secured in a loose bun, braid or ponytail. Not too tight, just secure enough to avoid bedhead/tangling. Never sleep with wet or damp extensions.

Products:

Only use professional products on your extensions that are sulfate/paraben free. Moisture & hydration is key to helping your extensions last as long as possible. Leave-in conditioners, oils & serums help keep the hair shiny and healthy looking.

Use a heat protectant before adding high heat to your extensions.

Apply products only to the mids and ends of hair, never at the attachment site.

Outside Factors:

Only use mineral based sunscreens while wearing extensions to avoid permanent discoloration and excessive dryness. Ideally it is best to protect your extensions from the UVA & UVB rays by wearing a hat.

Avoid submerging extensions in chlorine or salt water to avoid premature drying or discoloring your extensions. If you must do so, use a leave-in conditioner before going into saltwater or chlorine. Don’t forget to brush gently afterwards when your hair is still wet.

After excessive sweating and if you do not want to wash your hair, use Great Lengths Anti-Tap solution and thoroughly blow dry extension hair at the attachment site. This helps natural oils from sweat not break down the bonds.

Salon Maintenance:

Tape in extensions must be serviced in the salon every 4-6 weeks for move ups. Keratin extensions last anywhere between 3-5 months and do not require in-salon maintenance. It is normal for a few pieces (10-20) to fall out during the duration of your install.
